Clif Kids

July 30, 2018

This post was sponsored and made possible by Clif Kids. All statements remain our own.

Parenting is such a hard gig. I mean, we are literally responsible for raising and keeping tiny humans alive! No pressure though and look, I’ll be the first to raise my hand if asked if we have boxed Mac and cheese in our pantry. Convenience is such an important factor in our personal day-to-day lives because having two toddlers and being pregnant with a third gives a lot of leeway to exhaustion and it’s hard! I’m so excited though that we found Clif Kids. It might not replace our boxed Mac and cheese completely (not yet anyway) but Clif Kids bars allow me that extra time to come up with hidden veggies in a delicious recipe without my kids running the house.

Plus, Miller loves them!

Coparenting; Anxiety and Myself

July 5, 2018

It’s been a year since I began coparenting with anxiety. I write that off as a joke but in truth, that’s how it feels for me to battle anxiety alongside motherhood. In whole,  parenting is freaking hard. I mean, you’re responsible for keeping tiny humans alive and if that isn’t stress inducing in itself then I don’t know what is- But it’s also so much more than that; It’s amazing and wonderful and my kids are my life, they are my world. How could that possibly make one feel anxiety?

When I compare having Anxiety Disorder to coparenting with it, it’s more in terms of two perspectives; mine, and my anxiety’s. We simply want different things. Anxiety isn’t abstract, it doesn’t have a form but it’s always there with me. It consumes my mind…if I let it. So many moments go by that I am talking myself down from something that from the outside doesn’t even need it. It’s finding the strength to go to the pool when you want to play with your kids but your anxiety wants you to hide. Its finding the strength to move your legs when in your whole being, you know you want to walk to the park but your anxiety says:

“let’s make this miserable and watch you squirm to hide it from the world”

For me, it’s finding the strength from what’s around me because some days it’s hard to find it inside. Most of the time the strength comes from my kids. I see them and know there is so much more to our days then passing time waiting for my hands to stop sweating and my mind to stop racing. For many months all I could ask myself was ‘why?’. Why me? Why now? What’s wrong with me? This isn’t something that just happened one day, it’s something to some degree I have had my whole life but it wasn’t until last Spring that it became worse. All of a sudden I couldn’t talk, I could barely walk, my hands curled and my body stopped. Time was lost. I fought it with everything I could and it took over a month for the medicine to start working. It wasn’t easy. I had to fight to hear what my daughter said to me because me ears rang. We took at least two walks a day to focus on something beautiful because my eyes stayed in a tunnel. I cried. A lot.

I broke and I couldn’t even fix it. My body wasn’t mine anymore, it was controlled by Anxiety and there was nothing I could do to change that. Things I enjoyed shifted and I am still trying to learn who this person is. Days take longer to enjoy, but it happens. I refuse to let this keep me from enjoying my children. Just because Anxiety doesn’t want to do something, doesn’t mean Alexis doesn’t and that’s what I’m still trying to get used to, even a year later.

I have learned to tell myself I’m okay. That doesn’t make the feelings go away but if the better part of me knows I’m okay, that’s half a start. It’s a debilitating Disorder and it doesn’t feel good. The bodily shaking, the chest pain and heart pounding, the out of body feeling like you’re watching from afar, the moment your anxiety laughs and you can’t swallow (even though you can). To this day I don’t know when it will happen or what sparks it and I’m told time and time again that there isn’t necessarily a trigger which is what differentiates nerves from an Anxiety Disorder. I wish I knew. I wish I could make plans without dreading them. I wish when my kids asked me to go to the park it didn’t take an hour to build up the courage to do it. I wish it was easier. I wish I could just stop this forever.

The hardest part of accepting my new place in life is knowing that it wasn’t always like this. Days were as simple as getting ready and starting whatever that day brought and when I think about that, that is when the tears start because now it feels like I took that time for granted. Having a pity party won’t get my normalcy back though, it won’t make me feel better in my new skin and it won’t make anxiety finally divorce me.
Acceptance is the hardest part and I’m still in denial but I know in a matter of time, things will adjust as they should.

Days will become vibrant and I’ll find a balance with my Anxiety Disorder so together, we can parent in unity.

True Growth- Play Learn and Grow with the True Tot Tower

October 28, 2017

One of the most important moments we share with our children are those surrounded by mealtimes and cooking. At Little Gummi we love using products that bring our Littles right alongside us from preparing a meal to enjoying it and True-Growth True Tot Tower does just that.

We have kind of a unique love for our True Tot Tower as we use ours to encourage meals and make food prep fun. With a daughter who is Failure To Thrive, one of the most heart wrenching activities for us are those surrounding meals and we have found the best solution to the stress is inclusion.
Parenting is by far not an easy journey and a lot of times, for us at least, we look for products that help use pave the road for parenting success. Having one child that needs just a little bit more attention than the other means finding the right products to make that time easy. True Growth True Tot Tower does just that. We have gone from headaches and mealtime angst to using the True Tot Tower to teach and encourage all forms of mealtime success.
Our daughter absolutely loves getting out her Tower and knowing it puts her front and center in choosing and creating her own meal time path. She ultimately feels in control when she is using the True Tot Tower and that is so important in creating a healthy, food positive environment for her.

One of my favorite aspects about the True Tot Tower is it allows for your child to be right up in the action as opposed to standing on a chair or perhaps sitting on the counter. It is extremely sturdy and gives just enough independence to flourish any up and coming future cooks desire.

The True Tot Tower comes in a few different finishes and folds up nicely to store. We usually don’t have to store ours as we use it twice a day and what feels like 24/7. I mean, cooking takes a while! It is very easy to put together, in just a few pieces and about 20 minutes (if you’re savvy) you’ll be using yours moments after!

We just moved into our mountain home, so for photos of our True Tot Tower in use, check our instagram and in the meantime, shop your very own using the link below

C is for Clear Ear Oto Tip

October 18, 2017

This post was sponsored and made possible by Clear Ear Oto Tip. All statements remain my own.

Newborns, eyelashes and ear wax. OH MY!

So we love one out of the three and if you’re like us at Little Gummi you probably don’t like getting eyelashes out of your newborns eyes or ear wax out of your kiddos ear. We have no advice on the eyelashes (we always went to extremes, oops) but we have the perfect solution for the ear wax removal that works from one month and up! Clear Ear Oto-Tip is the perfect accessory for cleaning ears and changing the head from infant to adult is as easy as the product itself.

The Clear Ear Oto-Tip is designed with a spiral tip to catch and collect ear wax for a better removal then a cotton swab – which can easily damage ears. The drill like tip spins to create a web of wax (if there is any) for easy removal. One of the biggest concerns for me when I went to clean my Little’s ears were if I was inserting the cotton swab too far. Yes, I know this is a no-no which is why we completely support and promote the ClearEar Too Tip! Which, I might add has a safety shield to prevent anyone from inserting the ClearEar too far.
Because unsafe remedies for ear wax removal can cause injuries and hearing loss, the Oto-Tip is the perfect solution to safely remove excess wax. It has a subtle vibration that feels like a mini ear massage which my toddler calls the “bee”. Jensen loves the Clear Ear Oto-Tip and thinks it’s hilarious when the little “bee” comes to get her excessive ear wax. The medical grade silicone tip and shield are great for knowing the Oto-Tip is used properly and comfortably.

The tips (both small for children and large for adults) are reusable and if used on a regular basis  should be changed monthly.

Remember that ear wax is natural and healthy as it keeps out unwanted interferences within the ears; however, too much can cause temporary deafness. Start your Clear Ear habit today and make sure your selective-hearing-toddler is actually ignoring you rather than dealing with pesky excessive ear wax. After using the Oto-Tip I now know that Jensen is just ignoring me, until the “bee” comes to get her wax that is.

CLEARinse | From Mom Cold to Man Cold and Everything In Between

October 7, 2017

The transitioning of seasons brings on many things; Pumpkin Spice everything, oversized sweaters and if you’re like me, bonfires and outdoor fun. With all of the beauty in the changing seasons, comes also the not so fun colds that no one talks about. Sure we all love the rustling leaves and sometimes that’s enough to risk the chance of high ranking allergies but when you have a simple solution like CLEARinse Nasal Cleansing System it makes any outdoor activity bearable.

Get Prep and Pared and Give the Kids Cake

September 20, 2017

This post was sponsored and made possible by Kroger. All statements and opinions remain my own.

Have you ever equated dinner with at least an hour of prep, strenuous clean up and half of the kids complaining because they would rather have cake? Yes?! We call this witching hour at our house and it usually ends in exclamation and a restaurant. Feeding a family that consist of two kids who’s first tooth was a sweet tooth means chaos and frankly, I would rather let someone else deal with the mess.

We tried endless variations of delivered meals, the always regretful TV Dinner and of course pre-made kits in the mail that without hesitation would nearly spoil before someone grabbed it off the porch.

As we saw our dinner plans unfold in all of their glory, it wasn’t until we walked in to our local Kroger that the food angels shined down on the aisle of the brand new, mind-saving, witching hour eliminator: Prep + Pared Meal Kits from Kroger!

Prep + Pared Meal Kits from Kroger take the guessing away and make an adult meal truly a luxury with a non-luxury price tag. Ringing in with a base price of $14 for two adult servings and a cook time of under 20 minutes, go ahead, chime the parent dinner bell! We have, multiple times this week! The kits are brand new and exclusively at your local Kroger, ours comes from Kroger on Euclid in Lexington, Kentucky. It is fairly close to us which makes the 100% measured and prepped meals that much more enticing. Aside from the fact that they go from box to plate in 20 minutes or less.

I absolutely cannot get over how fresh the Prep + Pared Meal Kits are. They look and taste like they are directly from the farm. In our Vietnamese-Inspired Spicy Lemongrass Pork the slaw mix was brighter than anything I had seen and the aromas were strong enough to fill you up. The chef inspired meal had essentially no fillers which left us feeling satisfied and our taste buds craving more. One of the less noted bonuses for me was the fact that these are designed for two adults so the portions are very easy to divide and left us feeling like we ate a very healthy meal without over-eating.
The ingredients are all ready to go with no cutting or chopping needed and everything labeled accordingly in usually a few steps. During our 20 minute cooking session we had at least two child interruptions and because everything is labeled and prepped it made going back to cooking so much easier.

Of course parenting comes with a lot of great adventures and as we all know, parents definitely slack on taking care of themselves especially when it comes to food. I am raising a hand to cold leftover nuggets because making myself a meal would be way too time restraining when it means leaving my threenager to her own accords for minutes on end. PS, that never happens! The Prep + Pared Meal Kits are a game changer on many levels; not only do they replace my meal of cold nuggets abandoned by my toddler but they are actually healthy and truly a no-fuss, minimal clean-up kind of deal.

The Prep + Pared Meal Kits from Kroger are so great for that luxury meal at a budget friendly price. I love that amidst everything going on in our house, within 20 minutes my husband and I got to spend quality time cooking together, because honestly that is about as long as we would get! Even though date nights are slim these days, the Prep + Pared Meal Kit made it feel like for a slight moment we were in a food oasis which is a feeling we really cherish. As former New York City dwellers, by way of Chicago, we have always enjoyed fine cuisine and love experimenting with food choices and options which is something our family really is centered around. Prep + Pared Meal Kits let us try a new cuisine right in the comfort of our own home and it definitely brought some nostalgia back during the process.

Within 20 minutes, thanks to fresh ingredients and less prep time we had a parent only dinner with many more laughs enjoyed and memories made. There was no ‘what’s for dinner?’ stress or ‘who will clean the mess up?’ which meant more time together. Until the kids chimed in that is. So go ahead, grab a Prep + Pared Meal Kit from your local Kroger and let your kids eat the cake!
